As I was cleaning out my relatives attic I had found several "Bennett's Milk"
bottles. Although the dairy was apparently right here in Greensburg, no one that I have spoken to has heard of the dairy. So, I walk into a local shop today and find a "Bennett's Dairy" milk box right inside of the door!!! Now, the bottles and the box are together once again. It is also nice because "Bennett" is one of my family-tree names. I will stop here because I have milked this subject for all its worth :(

Wonderful coincidence ! The milk came in the boxes & you returned the empties in it ? All I remember seeing were the wire basket style holders. I just barely remember the milk truck & the bottle routine at the kitchen door.

bb, Yes, exactly. Would you believe that we even had our milk delivered in one of these style boxes as late as the 1970s!!! I never saw the wire holders. Good to hear from you and thanks for the comment!

No handle on the box ? Make it hard to handle more than 1 .
    4. vintagelamp vintagelamp, 8 years ago
No, never saw a handle on any of these.

bobby, Yes, even in the 1970s ours was just outside of the front door. They stayed on the porch so the milkman did not have to carry them. Thank you!

It was interesting to see at the store the other day a lady drinking milk from a pyroglazed bottle in similar shape. They still make milk in ACL bottles like these.

      They look '50s-'60s.

SpiritBear, I haven't seen those....interesting. Thanks for the comment!

OK. The milkman brought the bottles to the house in the wire carrier & swapped bottles in the box ! I barely remember our housekeeper putting the note for what we needed in the mouth of an empty. If I'm that old, maybe I should be in bed ! LOL !!

bb, I never saw the wire carrier. I think that you should drink some nice warm milk and turn in for the night. There will be some nice fresh milk on the porch in the morning delivered in a wire carrier I am certain. :D

Tell 'em, bobby! I don't think he's drinking warm milk though...not out of a bottle anyway :)

So milkmen were stupid ! They carried 2-3 bottles to the box at a time ? They had to be intelligent enough to get a driver's license !
Going to bed ! Gute nacht ! Warm milk ? Ugh !

Hope that there are no milkmen here bb! Goodnight....

That is really so awesome! I've seen many milk bottles at flea markets, but I've never seen a milk bottle box. Very nice find!
