Okay ... this is good. There were cameras specifically built to create stamp sized images. Complete outfits would have everything needed including stands and the accessories (i.e. stamp templates, perforated printing-out-paper, and so forth). Stamp cameras are pretty much unknown and rarely seen. I have a nice example of a stamp camera in my collection. It is called the "Royal Mail Stamp Camera" (1907-15) made by W. Butcher & Sons, London, England. There were at least two other makers I am aware of yet it would be very difficult to identify a stamp camera that might have produced these images. However you can see mine posted here on CW at: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/87788-royal-mail-stamp-camera-1907-15
Wow! great! wonderful information! before my friend passed he sold me the pictures and other items from his mother and dad's estate but this was really strange because I have a lot of items but never came across the postage photo thanks so much rniederman!!!! I will mark as solve
Fantastic images Sue and great response Rob!
Thanks racer4four!
rniederman are they rare? I've googled postal photographs,Royal mail stamp photo and found only one in a newspaper advertising from I believe early 1900's,have any idea where I can look at examples of photo
Original images from a Royal Mail Stamp Camera are rare and I've been looking (on-and off) for a nice example to display with my camera. In general, my opinion is that really early stamp photos are hard to find. I do see stamp photos from time-to-time but not that often.
Great! I do Ebay but have no examples to see I'll keep looking, again thanks so much rniederman! oh by the way they appear to be unused
rniederman I added all eight stamp photographs still looking, the back still has glue,if you find any sites please let me know
