From my research, this bottle is what's known as a Canton Export.
There is a bird on a branch on one panel and what they call a "hundred antiques" motif on the other.
The bottle was incredibly dirty when I got it. I have cleaned it a little, but it still needs a little more work.
I also repaired the top which had fallen apart.
I have not seen one like this before so have some question, if that's ok? I'm interested and admit I know nussing!!!
Is the bottle itself glass or stone or shell? Has the MOP been cut and pasted to make the designs and if so do you know how they did that? Any idea of age?
Ta :)
Hi racer4four, unfortunately I don't have many answers! I can't see anything but shell. The opening is small and has a shell top. The bottle is very light and so I would suspect that the base is not glass or anything heavy. The side panels appear to be carved from a single piece. The mosiacs on the sides must have been glued to some sort of base, but at the moment I can't see inside enough to hazard a guess at what that might be.
OK. Thanks for that!
very nice piece great find i have never seen one like it
thanks Master
