Please take a look at this item a blue and white Chinese brush pot, I am quite happy with the age of this item, but I would be very interested if anyone could identify the signature shown on photo four as you can see it has four symbols of different characters laid out in a vertical pattern, FYI the piece is 4 and 3/4 inches tall and 2 inches wide, I believe it to be of the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty thank you for looking.

Oh and looks like the 8 Immortals gone fishing !!!!!!

fleafinder is calling you 'my friend' peter16.

peter16 you were correct re: the pot's decoration, but perhaps the pot has no actual signature. It's a beautiful piece, gorgeous blue on white decoration. Is it painted?

fleafinder your profile says you come from Singapore. What marvellous skills you have - not that I know very much about Asian writings. Were these characters easy for you to read, and was peter16 correct about the dating of the piece?

hi gill yes he is right. but probably he needs to get them appraised as the marks are easily imitable
and yes love from across the globe,Singapore.

for chinese characters as i shared with some they are complicated as they evolve in different era from the very complex pictorial form to the traditional form to the simplied form. This above is fortunately the simplied form and not difficult to read as the qing dynasty wasnt very far back.
Hope that gave you alittle more background on the Chinese characters!

Hi Gillian, the piece is very lovely, I agree, it isn't painted as such the colour is underglaze cobalt blue I think, and thank for the comment re fleafinder and friend, I agree he has great knowledge, a quality presence on CW
And much love back to Singapore from England fleafinder

Sorry Peter, your vase, very unfortunate, it's absolutely not older than you. It's not even painted with cobalt ink (very good research though) but Printed. Real Chinese antique porcelain was painted by craftsman with Chinese brush, which leaves unique wake behind. Just like how do you distinguish a printing from an oil painting. Check this real one on this forum.
