    I inherited this Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. Trunk. Can you tell me something about it? I want to get the rust off, but am not sure if I should keep it in original condition. The leather straps are broken.

      I am a fan of original condition myself. One of the main advantages is that it is a lot easier than restoring it.

      A simple effective solution to not having to repaint is to fine steel wool the hardware and then apply gun oil. Trunk looks to be around the circa 1900's.

      Ps. The Towne and Yale were the makers of the lock but not the trunk.... without a label hard to know who actually made the trunk...
