I don't know anything about this and I don't see any markings anywhere. It's very heavy, iron maybe, and measures about 7.5" long x about 3.5" tall.

Go to Google Images and type in "frog pulling snail shell". You will see a number of them.
I've looked online and on Google Images, but I couldn't find any that matched exactly in the way it looked, the size, and being so heavy.

If the color is a deep patina over reddish gold, then it is made of bronze. You may not find the exact one, but there are enough of them there which are 95% the same, so I would label this planter as also being from Japan. This one has tiny hitchhiker frog rather than a snail.
