My mother-in-law gave me this set of lunch pails several years back. Her friend, an antique dealer, gave them to her. They are white enamel. Can you imagine carrying your lunch in this contraption.. This thing would carry a 5 course meal! It would be hard to return to work after a lunch that size. It must have been intended for more than one person.

Maybe they were originally made for farm workers? Cook serves it up, sends 'em out.

Just did a little research. They are called miner's lunch pails or picnic buckets and are dated 1950s. Thanks for the comments brunswick and racer4four and for the loves! and thanks for the loves to blunderbuss, NevadaBlades and TassieDevil.

I have been looking for one of these for a bit. I am thinking more like 1920s although enamelware like this would be used in the 1950s

thanks fortapache. Do you mean the lunch pail was likely made in the 20s? I saw one online from Holland and others from Russia. Mine has no mark.

These are really interesting! I've never seen lunch pails before, read about them, just never seen them. Excellent post!
