Belonged to stepfather was on his bookshelves for 40 years as a paperweight never ran wound tight the whole time... Got hold of it pulled movement out blew crud out of it and oiled it.... First day would only run upside down... No idea why and ran 8 hours... Next day ran rite side up for round 16..after a week is running bout 36 hours at a wind.... Totaly shocked figured it was gonna be a morning n evening occasional winder but seems to be very happy now... Dead on accurate like maybe half a min a day either direction
I'm no clock/watch expert, but I found that elec. contact cleaner works well for cleaning them out.
Afraid to hit it too hard with anything the crystal n face are put together almost like a tin can I don't wanna wash any dirt into where I can't get too
A little laugh. Because of our drawbridges, I like to keep a cheap watch dial velcro'd to a rear view mirror on my bike. Got an el-cheapo $12 watch, but the batter was dead when I got home. Watch repair guy traded me a new batt. for the wrist strap. Bloody thing would stick & beads of water formed inside the dial. Put it in a warm toaster oven & the crystal shattered. Time to toss it, right? Not me ! Took the back off, blew it out with contact cleaner, taped over the face with clear box tape & velcro'd it to the mirror. Been keeping perfect time for over a month now !! LOL !!
Love the upside down bit - who would think to try that lol?!!
