This minute jewel was made by Loetz c. 1903. Though it comes from the Jugendstil and Secessionist era, the simplicity of the design foreshadows the coming Art Deco movement. The base glass is similar to the Olympia décor, but the addition of the blue glass prunts distinguishes it as Orpheus. It is only about 4" tall and 3" in diameter. The pontil is finely finished and the iridescence is quite pretty. The glass has a high Uraium content and it glows a bright green under ultraviolet light. Good things come in small packages!
