    Hello CW friends!!!

Today we have an antique French made doll trunk. It's very well made and covered in fancy cut canvas with lots of brass nails and tacks. The interior is a beautiful red velvet type fabric with gold trim. It still retains most of it's original blue paint.

This one is still in really nice condition. I'm really not sure of it's age, but based on the type of lock and brass handle, I'd place this at least around the mid to late 1800's period. Thank you trunkman for the help with putting a date on this one.

I can only imagine the little girl who once owned this in France. I'm certain that this would have been a high end doll trunk even for then.

I'm very happy to be able to add this to my collection. Hope you like it as much as I do. And thanks very much for stopping in to have a look!

This is great Scott. The French children must have been very privileged. What a great era to have grown up in (unless you didn't have an indoor pottie). All my dolls and the ones I bought for my daughter that were popular came in a thin cardboard box. And were on the curb when I left AL. A neighbor rescued them after my daughter left for college. I kept her beanie babies. LOL and OMG. whomp whomp...

Quite the fancy little trunk. Plus it will make a good topper for one your trunk stacks.

Scott, this is just an adorable doll's trunk........and I can only imagine how beautiful the doll would have been!!!!

      OneGoodFind,
Thank you so very much! I find that the French items from that era were extremely over the top fancy (trunks, hats, dolls, etc...) and well made.
One of my boys had lots of farm toys, barns and animals. While my other son had mainly sports equipment and sports paraphernalia. We still have it all packed away in the attic somewhere. I know how you feel about your baby girl at college. Both my boys are away at EKU and I rarely see them anymore except holidays or an occasional surprise visit. I miss them both tremendously!!

      fortapache,
Thanks friend!! I actually have this one stored in one of our antique china cabinets to keep any dust off it and to keep it from accidentally getting damaged in any way.

      Judy,
Thank you!!! The person I bought this from called it a "Bebe" doll trunk and kept it with antique French bisque porcelain dolls. They were pretty fancy little dolls!!

Scott this is beautiful!! Out of curiosity what makes you think it is a doll trunk and not a document box? Looks to be a bit older than 1900's -- I am thinking more in the middle to late 1800's -- just by the craftsmanship that has gone into it.
    20. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      trunkman,
Thanks friend!! This was sold to me by a French bisque porcelain "Bebe" doll collector who had owned this for many years. They were unable to give an age of this, only that it's very very old. This is one that I was unable to put a date on, but I figured it was no newer than 1900. Your date on this would be more like it, so I'll go with the mid to late 1800's on this. Thanks very much!!
I have another French doll (striped canvas) trunk that I'm working on. It's 20" long and 12" tall and has really became a challenge:) I'll post it if ever I get finished with it.

      Elisabethan,
Thank you very much!! I keep this one on display in one of my old china cabinets to protect it. So, just for display purposes only. I saw your French purse earlier and it's wonderful!! Thanks for the kind comment, the love and for stopping in. I do appreciate you!!!
    27. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 8 years ago
You are welcome :) Thankyou! I see, yes you might need to be extra careful of it as it is very old. I always use my things but that's different as most of my pieces are jewelry and I have "transmitted" that way of thinking to all my things old or not. Have a nice day.

      Thanks Elisabethan!!
I'm working on a French striped canvas doll trunk (much larger than this one) that I'll be posting in the weeks to come, as well as a few more unique items.
    30. Rick55 Rick55, 8 years ago
OMG Scott, they even made a trunk for dolls? Another wonderful piece!
    31. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      Rick,
Thanks so very much!!! Yes, they did make trunks for dolls as well as toy trunks. In fact there was a factory, or two, that made nothing but toy and doll trunks way back when. There are many folks that collect nothing but doll trunks. There were many different styles and grades of these. This would have been one of the higher end doll trunks for that period.

      It really is keeper!
    34. jscott0363 jscott0363, 8 years ago
      Thanks Drill!!
When I got it, I did not know it was blue until I started cleaning it. The blue was a BIG bonus to me! BTW, I have a striped canvas French doll (or childs) trunk that I'm working on right now, as well as a early 1900's French hat trunk. When I'm finished with them I'll post them. I know you like your French trunks as much as I do.

I do love this one as well. Since it's so old and fragile I keep this one displayed inside a antique chiae cabinet to protect it. Thanks so much for the wonderful comment, the love and for stopping in. Very much appreciated!!!
