Got this trunk from helping someone move. They started to clean it up but stopped after taping it off which dried and pretty much ruined it. Just curious what kind of trunk it is. I know almost nothing about trunks.
No markings. It's 22"x39"x24"
Looks like a 1940's vulcanized fiber covered trunk -- a standard at the time for storage. Did the paint come off with the tape or the tape remained on the paint?
Not 100% sure but this could be late 1930's to 40's era trunk, if there is no label or tag couldn't tell ya who made it. Try some Murphy's oil soap on that tape residue with soft brush or rag if that doesn't work try some goo gone .
Thank you for the information. The tape remained on the paint. Left the masking tape residue. Did try some goo gone and it worked but only after working a tiny area for a good while. I don't think it's worth trying to clean up.
It would make a good coffee table, clean off the tape residue take some fine steel wool to the metal and hit the hole trunk with some Johnson's paste wax, you would be surprised.
Thanks again for the comments. This trunk is a bit too big for our space and as it's not worth much will just donate it.
someone will appreciate it...
We just acquired one like it with part of the label missing but still has the letters ..auld... Does anyone know this manufacturer?
