for Collectomaniac:
Here is a collection of the few domes I have acquired over the years. Very few EAPG era glass makers bothered with making domes to match the many cake stands. Authentic EAPG era domes very rarely show up for auction and those I have seen have always been without an accompanying stand. The only EAPG era stand I in my collection is the first image (or left center in the group of 4) made by Co-operative Flint Glass c1890s. The one on the far left is made by Viking Glass c91970s. The one right center I 'think' is by Princess House in their Heritage pattern c1970s. The far right is Anchor Hocking, and I have 2 of these; I think AH may still be making these domes.
To answer your other questions:
Many of my stands do have light knife marks and a few have fairly heavy marks (possibly from bakery use). I do often decorate and serve cakes on my stands, but try to be very careful when cutting so as not to add more marks; and I sometime put cakes on cardboard round. And I do have a Fostoria set including a cake knife and server with crystal handles; tho' I don't often use these. I do have a few old cake servers that are less likely to scratch glass. I think the more formal settings of the EAPG era likely used silver cake servers.
As far as pies go, I think the cake stands served double duty here, as I know of no specifics pie serving wares unless there are also some bread plates that could be used for pies.

Co-operative Flint Glass #7184 c1890s, 11" OD

Anchor Hocking 11-1/4" OD

Wow, the Co-operative dome really stands above the crowd. She's a beaut. The scarcity of the domes is well received. I had no idea, and will never pass by one in a hurry during my travels.
Splendid info. Thank-you.

Tallcakes -- You should write a Book as your items, knowledge. dedication and pictures are all the right quality for that !!
thank you Rose : ) glass book writers I'm acquainted with say that the publishing of glass books is very difficult and not financially rewarding. Thus, I started my web site, but have to admit that I haven't kept it up to date for a while, as various life situations have gotten in the way. I really need to dedicate some time to getting the website updated...
