This piece has me a bit confused because I don't know what to call it. Would it be called an amethyst moonstone? Aren't those two different things and this is either one or the other?
I believe this is from the 60's and don't know how to describe this design either...the little tag has a makers mark on it but I can't seem to get a good photo of it so I'm going to draw it for you ;) and add the pic in a moment. The initials are N / C inside a "shield". Under that, it has .925
Mainly, I'm trying to figure out how to describe this properly. Once it's gone, it's a good thing if I don't have to see it again, right?
I really appreciate the help so I can wrap this mystery up! And I do mean, wrap it up ;)
Thank you!!!
This is sooooo beautiful in it's simplicity! I also think it's a cabochon amethyst. You know what - that's an older style of tag on that chain. I wonder it someone did a switcheroo and the chain is not original to the necklace. The pendant design looks too modern for the chain. There is apparently no record of the NC mark online. Someone else has a gold chain marked NC 14K:

Thomas, thank you for the nice comment! Much appreciated.
Ms Val, I wish you could see it in person. I have one other piece with moonstones, they are of poor quality I think but this has some of that same thing going on as it moves...the light reflects in an almost circle motion. Would that be because of the shape of the stone? Or you think it's def an amethyst? I'm going to add some pics from another view, I'd like you to see. I've just not seen an amethyst like this is why I question...so please don't think I'm doubting you, it's just so different...
Hi Bonnie. Thank you so much. I would agree with you but...haha I have to say, I think it's original because it looks like it's been cleaned. I don't know how large the photos show up for you but if you can see the crevices you will see pure black. It has taken me such a long time to NOT clean jewelry anymore. It's hard, but I don't do it. Now I clean only the pieces I'm going to keep, I love my pieces to sparkle no matter what they are or how old they are. Like the neat freak I am! haha I'm sitting here thinking, yea and if she saw the area I'm sitting in she would call me a liar!!! haha-doing a re-org and painting and whacked my back so I've got tunnel vision at my screen so I don't go completely berserk!
Oh, forgot to mention about your link...I have no question that it's not a sign for "nickle content' or the like, would this be Scandinavian?
Oh wow, this has gotten lots of love! Thank you all so much, I appreciate it more than you know. I hope you don't mind me not naming everyone...I'm afraid at the moment while my back is screaming at me, I might miss someone. Don't mean to be rude. Thank you all...
I just had to come back to say thank you although copy and paste, at least I got back here and hope you understand. You know how it is when the 'sometimers' thing or the back got whacked at this point in life right? What can we do but shake our heads when it happens. Making a vow to do more preventative for now on. I want to continue to be and stay active!!! Wish me luck with that ;)
Thank you all so much for all the love and comments too!

Your kindness is always appreciated!
I found a very similar mark for a Laurence Foss, who apprenticed with Edward Everett Oakes in Boston, and also designed for Georg Jensen USA when that firm was producing designs by Americans during and shortly after WW II. The mark has the same design of shield but NF. Could there be a conection to those manufactureres but a different maker?
Your piece looks very scandinavian.
It looks Scandinavian to me, too. That being said, I have a modernist pendant which looks very Scandinavian but was made here in Wooden Shoe Land!
Elisabethan, sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this. I like your take on it and I thought it looked Scandinavian too but can't always place it. I'll give that a shot with some more research and let you know if I find anything! Thank you so much for the love and comment!!!
Eg...Mayby we can clog it up?!? haha
Thank you for the love freiheit & bijoucaillouvintage...much appreciated!
