I found two of these the other day - covered in paint and extremely dirty. i thought they were all chippy but got them anyways because i really liked the graphic alot. i was very surprised to find them unchipped and mint under the paint! they have an impressed mark on the back which says 'Cardinal China'. any idea what they are for?

The web just calls them double egg dishes. For poached eggs. Maybe you emptied the eggs into the larger well, and dipped your toast in there!
