Sometimes it's good to have MS and a lot of Dr. appointments. My reward to myself is to stop at ARC or Goodwill stores I don't visit as frequently.

First, I'm not sure how to categorize these. Greek men predominately play with these, although I hear times are changing!

On Thursday, I was going through the junk jewelry. You never know what you'll find. Ta-da! Worry beads! The coral first caught my attention, then I spent a good 10 minutes untangling them before I got a good look!

I was thrilled! And $1.99, when the original price says 85. Of course, I don't know if that's dollars, Euros or old Greek currency as it doesn't specify. In doing research, it appears high end Komboloi are made of coral and fine chain. I don't have a gold testing kit, but my N52 magnet is not attracted at all. I started doing some cleaning of the chain and it is filthy. Will take awhile.

It has 19 coral beads. Then the shield bead, a sterling bead, another coral bead and a glas evil eye. Hanging, it measures 6.5" to the shield and the tassel is 2.5". It is so fun. My husband thought it was nuts to buy it. My Dad had always wished he had bought worry beads years ago when they visited Greece and Turkey. Instead, he carried a worry stone.

    Thanks for looking!

A bit of info from the Fethiye Times about worry beads. I lived in Turkey for a few years.

Efesgirl thank you for the link. I remember my Dad telling me about prayer beads and worry beads from their Turkey trip. He was raised Catholic and married a Lutheran. Still had his rosary and played with the beads when he was sick. Mhe converted years ago so don't think he was praying, but that was his business. He really enjoyed watching the men in Greece playing, literally, with the Komboloi in Greece. He said some users were really noisy and some quiet. It's a fascinating custom and beats smoking.
