One of the charming "antiques" of my 1925 home is the original milk delivery box, untouched since built. The housewife could access the box from a door on the inside to place the empties and bring the new ones into the house.
I cleaned and painted and of course placed a locally accurate bottle inside!
Bottle style and label style dates to 1950s-1960s.
My dear friends still have one in their 30s house. So glad yours is still there too!
yes, SpiritBear--bottle top says 1958!
I lived for 12 years in an apartment that had one of these. I was told that they were for any kind of delivery. Mine was divided into an upper and lower compartment by a shelf. All 13 apartments in the building had one of these. It was a three story brownstone. The woodwork was all mahogany.
thanks, kwqd! Very interesting!
