Recently inherited. This thing has some mileage on it, but I love the worn treasure-chest look.

Brass lock reads "Corbin Cabinet Lock Co, New Monitor, Patd Oct 2 1883, New Britain Conn"

Latches and leather handles still in decent shape. Sheet metal bottom and little wheels still intact. Wood cracked in places. Interior needs restoration. Hinges and lock need some help too.

So far, from what I have gathered, this is a "Saratoga" trunk (name of style, not manufacturer)

Thanks. Learning more now. A true steamer trunk is low-profile and meant to fit under a bed...and the dome top would make it impossible to place upside down or stack other baggage on top maybe.

      Saratoga Trunk, circa 1885. "Round-top."

      Great trunk info here:

The search continues for a true "twin" in better condition...

Beautiful trunk, it was probably covered with leather originally . This is just a suggestion if it were me I would clean all the wood with Murphys oil soap and a soft brush, clean all metal with steel wool, polish up your ornamental hardware and that brass lock, give it a light sanding and a stain of your choice, personally I like light on the body of the trunk and dark on the slats put a clear coat on it and it will look fantastic!! wish it was mine.
