Fabulous Find !!!
Gosh, how wonderful!!!!
Beautiful find!!
Very nicely displayed!
Could these be called memorial pins or brooches?
Sweet find and discovery !! A +++
i think that, in addition to mourning purposes, these types of buttons would have been exchanged between sweethearts or family members, since it would still be a relatively novel thing to have a photograph of a loved one taken. the photos are typically mounted under celluloid with these of buttons and were highly popular around the late victorian/early edwardian eras. your buttons are beautiful examples that appear great in condition, subject matter, and tinting.
here's a bit more about photographic jewelry with some really spectacular examples: https://www.morninggloryjewelry.com/victorian-photo-jewelry-aid-56.html
These were popular in the very late 19th century.
Photographs, while not an every day occurrence, were very popular and even the smallest towns had a photographer or two.
You have some great examples to include a soldier!
