I was told this chair is mahogany from the 1700s it has wood dolls or wood pegs that you can see holding it together also some mismatched wood screws holding it together. Insects have ate a few holes in it and the exposed wood is a purple color. There are places that look like the wood has been hammered to produce a background pattern . The seat is carved the back has a carving that mirrors the front. The carving you see on the front is the same on the back . The front is high relief and the back carving is flat. I believe the arm rests are griffins? Can anyone tell me what country and what time frame the chair was made in any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you the few screws I believe were added to make the chair more solid. The chair was made with wood dolls or pegs to hold it together!

Looks to be late 19th century.

If it's Asian, It appears hand rubbed oil finished and not lacquered. If so, it could easily predate 1850-60 when this practise diminished due to a 'good' wood shortage, and poorer wood was used, and lacquered. The shortage of wood was due to over usage and flooding. There would also be no screws or nails in it, and able to be knocked apart with a wood mallet. (at least regarding some other 18c furniture I've seen)
