Nice old double sided porcelain sign that supermarkets and filling stations used back in the 50's and 60's, this sign was displayed in front of the retail store. Green Stamps were one of the first retail loyalty programs, retailers purchased the stamps from the operating company and then gave them away at a rate determined by the merchant. Some shoppers would choose one merchant over another because they gave out more stamps per dollar spent and then the shoppers could cash them in for items from the green stamp catalog.

Thanks Dottie, glad to bring back some old memorie with your Mom and Grandmother! I often do the same thing!
I used to lick the stamps and put them in the books for my mom in the early 60s.

Thanks Pops!
Thanks so much for posting your green stamp sign ! I remember back in the day when mom and I would collect stamps, paste the stamps in our stamp book, then when you have so many books you could then pick something to purchase from the green stamp catalog ! I so remember those days ! those were the good old days ! love it !
I love your stamp sign.... My grandma had these stamps growing up.. I still have a couple of them.. my grandma is 96yrs old.... this was a wonderful memory today for me... Thanks Heidi :)
Man, my mother used to collect these stamps and us kids would lick them and stick'em in the books. Not sure we ever got anything with them but we sure did
like lickin them stamps. That would never work today. Beautiful sign!
Thanks mswhite, lovevintage, and signaholic. Thanks for sharing memories and stories of the good ol days, I love to read the blogs!
My husband and I still have a pair of lamps that we got with Green stamps . One of them still works . I just need to take a look at the other one to see what is wrong with it . It may just need a new socket . This sign does bring back a lot of memories . My mom also collected them and I remember going to the store with her to pick things out that she wanted to get with the stamps .
Thanks for stopping by Nancy!
Thanks egreeley1976.
I have the same sign,do u know what its worth
It really depends on condition, I've seen these signs sell on ebay from $150 to $300. Hope this helps!
Thanks mtg75 and trgrubaugh.
I still have that Glue on my tongue!!!!!
Great sign.
My mother lived for S & H (Sperry & Hutchinson) Green Stamps. When she died, I found about 80 books of them. I can remember her counting all the stamps after a trip to the store. Strange, I do not remember her redeeming them for anything.
That sign looks great. Nice find!
This is great. A little history about S & H, they started in 1896.
Thanks kinggulfoil, Bellin68, kerry10456, packrat-place, designer, and mmm for all the comments and loves.
Thanks designer and kingulfoil!
Thank you fifties50s!
Thank you bratjdd!
Thank you timetraveler!
ive got a couple of these signs too, not this particular one. this is VERY nice. To bad that credit cards killed the coupon-stamp industry. ill try to post some of my S&H stuff. Mike
Thanks mikielikesigns2, yeah all major retailors always want you to sign up with their cc, sears started this in the 70's, but where are they now?
