I was given this trunk and was about to give it away when I realized that under sn extremely old tape strip there was a hand written item. I gently pulled away the old tape and found the shipping address for this trunk. Notice no zip code used and the handwriting is old too
I'd like to see if anyone has an idea of its age. I can not find any rages, writing or any other identifying markings.
Thank you
Angela
Hey Angela, you have a flat top trunk from around 1890 to 1900 give or take a bit, it would be a very nice trunk to refinish and look very nice when you were done, don't just give it away give it a try. The writing is obviously someones address.
Hi Angela,
Your trunk is a style made by many American trunk companies from the late 1890's to the early 1920's. I have old trunk catalogs from that time period that show similar trunks. It's canvas covered wood, usually pine or basswood, with hardwood, usually elm outer slats. Many of these trunks did not have any maker labels or markings. This would be a great trunk for you to clean up and use in a variety of ways!
