    Hello.

I just picked up this trunk and am wondering whether it's of historical significance. I have no background information on it, so I can only say what details I notice on the trunk itself.

This trunk has "W.N. Wallis" on the top, which I assume, based on responses to other trunk photos, is the name of the original owner. It has an "Eagle Lock Co." lock and "W.N.W." painted on the front. On the right side it has a prepaid Railway Express Agency and Fragile sticker. On the left side there is a tag with the name and address of someone in Indiana. I looked up the address on the tag and found it to be for a house built in the 1920s. Also, there is no interior liner.

To me, it seems similar to a few other trunks on this site, but I'm not well versed in this subject. The trunk appears to be well worn - loose hinges, broken lock, nail punctures, damaged leather, tears along the top, etc.

If I had to make a guess I would say this is possibly from the 1930s but again, I just recently began learning about this subject. Any information you may have would be helpful. I'd appreciate it greatly.

    Thank you.

Here are some patents that may apply. A very common canvas covered trunk made by the hundreds of thousands,by multiple manufacturers.1900 to 1930s or so.thanks for the post.

Thank you so much for the information! I really wanted to attempt to restore/refresh it, but was afraid I might be ruining a bit of history in the process. Now that I know it's rather typical and nothing historical I can commence with the process. Much appreciated.
