Good Evening CW Members--- 7:30 PM)2016-11-9
I really don't know if someone looking for my good fortune, but today, I was bless to find this beautiful Steamer Trunk in the trash, this surpass me to see people throw such a beautiful piece of furniture along the road.
Now I am just guessing, by looking the global overall trunk, this look like a high end one, first it's not cover with anything(you can appreciated the fine patina and the rich wood grain colours), all the hardware are brass(accept the handles), the assembly is also very nice, all dovetail(cover with a piece of red copper), the wood are larger piece, no joint, now I did't remove any nails or screw for age estimate, IMO this could be easy from the 40s, could be earlier.

Picture #1--Front view of the trunk.
Picture #2--Closer look of the hardwares.
Picture #3--Closer look of the top lid.
Picture #4--Right corner from inside, showing the dovetail assembly.

Now some really knowledgeable members here on CW, collect Trunk, any comments are welcome, I will really appreciated any input from you guy's......

This beauty stand 28 inch wide, 21 inch deep, 19 inch tall.

    Many Thanks Everyone for Viewing

      Alan,
Congratulations on the finding the free trunk. I really love the sheet brass binding on this one. Not sure what it is about that part of Canada, but trunkman has found a few discarded trunks in his neighborhood as well:) Lucky find my friend!!!

Scott, Thank you for the quick comments, my friend, i knew you will love this.
Talking about this bidding pieces all around and on the side, do you think this is original to the piece, because this hiding the beautiful dovetail work(they look very old) bang up all over.

      Regards
      Alan

      Alan,
Judging by the precise spacing of the tacks in the binding, I would be willing to say yes it it the original binding. The dovetailing is an indication of a well made piece.

Hey, trunkman, what is your opinion on my first trunk??

      Regards

Alan this is a very nice well made trunk. Very unusual to have all that brass trim for this age of trunk. I usually only see the French makers do this intricate nailing of brass trim - those little corner pieces where the trunk closes look French too but the rest of the hardware is North American so interesting mix. Great curbside find Alan -- watch out though -- that's how I got started!!!
