    Hello Friends,
I collect many different items, including glass. I purchased this particular piece at a thrift shop this past week and think it may be Bohemian. All of the blue squares of the engraved checkerboard design feature vignettes of Squirrels, Rabbits, ducks and Deer. The clear squares feature pine boughs. Czech glass has always been dear to me. This piece is definitely vintage, and is in near mint condition,( there are a couple of flea bites along the rim that look as though they may be the result of grinding the edge,..otherwise it's mint )
I'd love to learn more about it, it's origin and age,......any information that you would share would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You in advance, Tony

It's a fascinating site, I've learned a lot in just an afternoon, Thanks!
If I can help anyone I'll do so happily.
I'm an artist, have worked in a number of mediums. I also work as a Sexton at South Congregational Church, on Cape Cod, in MA.
Best of luck to everyone here,
      Tony.

Hi Tony. I'm sure it's Bohemian.

      Amazing engraving!

Have a look around the net using the words:
      - Fachschule Haida, (not to be confused with the Haida people of North Americas)
      - Haida is these days known as "Novy Bor" (a famous glass name)
      - Johann Oertel (Örtel)
      - Steinschönau 0r Steinschoenau.

By the way the German umlaut above the ö is sometimes replaced with an "e" giving an "oe" combination. So you might see Lötz or Loetz.

      Good Luck!

      Dear Vetraio50,
Thanks for looking at my vase and for taking the time to write. Not only is it a big help to me, but it'll lead me further on the path of discovery,......that's what I love about collecting, finding new things, and uncovering histories.
I hope that I'll be able to help you at some point in the future
Once again, Thank You for your kindness,
      Best Regards, Tony

Hello Tony, Great vase with awesome etching! I would like to suggest Ruckl as the manufacturer. There is a blue cut to clear glass vase with a Ruckl label here.

Open the link above in a separate window to see the similarities. Hope this helps and thanks for posting your vase on cw!
