This Tiffany style lamp doesn't have much of a history as it was purchased a few winters ago from somebody who does repossessions, house clearances and home removals. I picked it up from an industrial warehouse in a very poor state. Took me a good week to clean it to see shade's true colours. The base is covered in brown paint which I don't like much but fear to remove.
It's bronze and very heavy, in fact I can't lift it assembled. My scant research about the base comes to
    http://www.mosaicshades.com/pcs2005/metalware/tiffhdwr/Bases/index.htm

The base is telescopic potentially reaching 28'', overall measurement of the lamp is 22'' high ( not extended) and the shade is 32'' wide.
The base bottom plate is missing, so I can't tell whether it's authentic, however, local auctioneer mentioned that the base and shade were made at different times and advised to get in touch with a Tiffany lamp specialist, which is still on my 'to do' list.

"Dragonfly " design but not sure of age . Tiffany did the design but other companies copied his concept of design . Very beautiful lamp .

      Thank you Efesgirl & Manikin.
I'm pretty sure the shade is reproduction. As for the base...

I actually like the base! It somehow balances the glory of that shade.

      Beautiful lamp....LOVE it !!

I am not sure but I will say my 2 cents worth I think the base is too clean, as there would be dust still in places no matter what. Secondly, it the base was real there would be more wear on the Stem of the lamp as anytime you moved it ( with the shade on / or off ) I would assume you would be grabbing the lamp the the middle stem and after years -- there would be some sort of wear. Even if totally loved and cared for -- they would be some wear there I think.

So this is just me thinking out-loud here. It just kinda looks too clean and new to me but again -- just my opinion. Either way I love the lamp as it cast such beautiful colors from the Shade.....and I just LOVE the 3rd picture where it casts a whole bunch of Colors on the Wall. Stunning !!!!

great feedback from antiquerose. there may be explanations, but it's still really good feedback.

      Dear antiquerose,
Appreciate your comments and thanks for 'LOVING' the shade.
As I mentioned in the description, the base is painted muddy brown with a few places where the paint chipped off so bronze base is seen. There is some rubbing much higher than the rootballs as the lamp is 80 cm ( not extended)
Authentic or reproduction, it is an eye-catcher.

Lovely lamp, the shade modern ,manufactured in
One of the Checqoslavakia towns, reproduction of the fantastic Comfort Tiffany. The base is heavy because it has to balance the shade, they are cased in a Bronzed amalgam, on
Lead. They look the part, but quite modern, have one, am restoring the shade????

    12. SilverLining, 8 years ago
      Hi Artefartee,
Thank you for the comments. Totally agree that shade is reproduction. Authentic one is still on my 'to buy' list ! As for the base, I'd love to have a professional opinion whether this brown pain it's covered with can be removed, even though it carries the function of creating ' tree bark' effect for the rootball design.
Th reason I doubt they are the item is that root/tree designs were not usually matched with dragonfly shades. Poppy/roses/ flowers or wisteria were more obvious choice.
I guess I mistakenly wrote to you asking whether you restore shades. Apologies. Got authentic Salem Bros shade - ruined, so need help with it.

the rootball base here is a reproduction... the originals has glass balls and a bit different design. Sotheby's has an example on their site with the following description:
"Dragonfly" table lamp not only has an array of spread-wing dragonflies around the base of the shade but also exotic balls of glass supporting the tendrils of the base's "roots that have somehow also managed to send a ball to the top of the lamp. The overall effect is volcanic, recalling and conjuring the magic of glass-making. The dragonfly motif was quite popular and this auction has a few example in different colors and sometimes the elaborate shades "sit" on rotund squat bases covered with more glass dragonflies. Here, though, the spindly legs of the base standing on small glass orbs evokes a mysterious and wondrous organic world. This lamp, which comes from Minna Rosenblatt, a leading Tiffany dealer"

there are also examples with other Tiffany shades
