This ewer or punch pitcher is by Wedgwood, but not your typical Jasperware. It has a colorful Majolica glaze with just the right amount of crazing for something this old. It stands about 9" tall by 5" in diameter, and is adorned by a detailed head of Pan. Classical themes were still alive and well in Victorian times. It reminds me somewhat of the film, "Pan's Labyrinth" :-) The bottom has the proper Wedgwool and British Majolica marks dating it to June of 1888.
stunning my friend!!
This R stands for the 2nd cycle which was 1889, Q was for 1888, the first cycle was in earlier years as per Wedgewood Creamics 1846-1959 book. This one uses the letter R. Wonderful piece.
I don't like Wedgwood...except for this ewer....GORGEOUS!!!
Some of the best wedgewood would change your mind, I know from my books there are rules to every dislike.
gorgeous glaze & the moulding supreme first class Bob
Thank you as always Sean :-)
Hi Phil, I see you are going from the stoneware marks... I was using the 3 letter Wedgwood code TBQ with T standing for June and Q standing for 1868. From what I've read, the Wedgwood date marks are not always an exact match for the stoneware marks. Perhaps the Wedgwood marks date the design... I see we are withing 6 months of each other. Cheers! - Bob
Thanks Efesgirl... if you dig deep enough into Wedgweood, you may find a few more that you like - Best regards, - Bob
Much appreciated Malkey... glad you like it... and it isn't even glass! (LOL)

Phil - I figured out that the "kite" registration mark is actually a series 1 mark for 1861, the year Wedgwood registered the Doric design. The production date was 1888 as indicated by the date mark TBQ. More here... http://www.wedgwoodmuseum.org/collections/collections-online/object/doric-jug-with-satyr
