The Lötz book from 2003 lists only 15 genres, but Titania comes with many more. Titania refers to a group of decors consisting of an inner color layer (ground color), a second layer with thin silvery threads ("stahlgrau") within a layer of gradient colors and a clear glass layer on top. The genre number stands for the design of the threadings, wheras the color designation refers to the ground color and the color of the intermediate layer. Some genres are more often than others (with Gre 2534 beeing the most frequent), some are very rare and are applied to only a few vases.
This vase shows "Titania rot m. braun verlaufend" (red spreading with brown) Gre 2514. As with the Phaenomen genres the Gre number is derived from the production number where the decor was applied first. The decor is even drawn on the paper pattern of PN II-2514, and the decor is also listed on the pattern of II-2515. Titania Gre 2514 was used with only three production numbers (PN II-2495, II-2514, and II-2515), as far as the patterns tell us.
This is the first and only example of Titania Gre 2514 I know about.
The feather design resembles the older Phaenomen Gre 166.
SPECIAL !!!!
Yes, Gre 2514! I think you and I were the main bidders on this one! I am so glad you got it. As we say in the Loetz Advisory group, it is good to know that it is being kept in the "family".
As far as I can tell there was another bidder between us. I am very happy about it. I love it for the decor so close to Phaenomen Gre 166. I will send you some pictures with higher resolution.
What gorgeous piece of glass the feathering first class stupendous
thankin you kindly for sharing glasfreund
I like your photos with the black background. They highlight the Titantia thread design. Looking forward to your additional photos. I have a ton of site work updates that need to be done. Hopefully, I can get to work on this after the first of the year.
This is beautiful!
Outstanding piece and research! Congratulations on finding such a beauty!

OMG! Let me know if you get tired of that one! I'll give it a GREAT home!
