I would like to know what type of Buddha I have. Someone said Tibetan, but wasn't sure. It is brass, but says solid brass on the bottom tag, when it is obviously hollow. Why is that? It is 9 1/2" tall and the widest part of the base is 6 1/2"

"Solid Brass" simply means that brass was the only metal used in it's construction. Yours is the Earth Touching Buddha/Call To Earth:

I was also glad to see your explanation of the solid brass tag.

Most statues are hollow, whether on not they are solid brass. The fact that they are hollow means that they were usually made by the hollow wax process which gives the best results for brass or bronze statues. Most of the best bronzes in the world are hollow and do not have any "bottom" affixed to the base. This bottom is more an afterthought and does not help its beauty, it seems roughly affixed which looks poor quality. Indian castings have to be looked for the best quality and once you learn that part, that is the most important for you. Since you are a librarian you should know the value of books, especially on statues, bronzes etc., possibly you can locate some on oriental pieces.
