Hello CW friends!!
I'm always on the lookout for unique and hard to find cast iron doorstops and I recently came across this little penguin wearing a scarf. I don't know why, but cast iron penguins are few and far between. So, I rarely come across one that's not priced at $500 or more.
This little guy was reasonable priced and had been painted completely white. Most of the paint had came off of him and he was rusted. He has a "W" (possibly an X or M) and a number "2" engraved on the bottom.
Since he's not what I'd call vintage yet, I went ahead and cleaned him up and repainted him. (Please forgive my lousy paint job, I've never claimed to be an artist:) But, he does look far better than when I first got him.
He has a nice smooth finish on the iron and the seams are really nice and tight. So, I don't believe this is a Chinese reproduction. The reproductions are most always very crudely cast and the seams aren't this tight. So, a well made piece, in my opinion.
This little fellow is only 7" tall and though he's not solid, he's still pretty heavy. I'm guessing this little penguin is from the 1970's, possibly the 1960's. He's the first one like this I've ever seen.

Another "I've never seen one of those before" - Penguins are very dear to me (don't ask), and this one is no different. The paint job is perfect, and I'm sure he's glad to be the right colours again.

Thank you so very much!! He caught my eye the minute I saw him and I wasn't going to let this one slip away. This is the first of this penguin style I've ever seen as well. I can't imagine why anyone would want to paint him completely white, but I too am glad he's painted back with the right colors again.

I've seen very few cast iron penguins in all of my searches. Of the few I've seen, this is the first of this type I've ever came across. So, he must be a rarity!!
