I really need your help on this one: I think the teapot is very old. I estimate it to be at least 100 years - but this is base on my feeling, not my knowledge, and I hate to admit that my feelings have been wrong before.
The pot is in almost perfect shape except some loss of the gold. It looks to me like it is mostly hand painted but the image of the lady seems to be a transfer image. The blue could be cobalt blue.
There are no markings at all but some signs of some kind of adhesive. I have come across old pieces with taped on (some times on band aids) names of the former owners. This looks like one of these items.
I would appreciate any comments.
Thanks for looking:)
Many thanks, aura:)
It does look old...such a pretty Christmas time teapot.
Thanks, Efesgirl. Marry Christmas:)
Many thanks, Karenoke and CindB:)
I think the portrait is of royalty, with the ermine fur and tiara, possibly Empress Elisabeth of Austria 1840-90’s? I believe she was assassinated.
The colours are unusual, they remind me of the Gaudy Welsh patterns, which other companies copied after it became popular
It's a beautiful little teapot!!!
There are no over - glaze painted and under- glaze marks but try to look for impressed marks. They are easily overlooked and sometimes can be seen only under a particular angle. Magnifying glass is not helpful, under-glaze marks are often better seen with naked eye, but again under a certain angle.
You can clean off the glue with lighter fuel ( liquid) on a cotton ball/puff or paper towel, It won’t harm the glaze, there may be a mark under there
I would bet this is an old paris porcelain because of the decor. You must look if the porcelain is translucent thoug thisck
the texture of the porcelain must be glossy but not so icy
josephine portrait Napoleon wife
OMG - I was busy with my Christmas shopping and when checked my post, I got help from my wonderful CW fellow collectors! Thanks so much to all of you!
Kivatinitz, it is Josephine!!! After I read your post, I found an almost identical image of her on line. Now I will check out your tip about old Paris porcelain.
Thanks so much!
I found this set. The image on the pot seems to be the same.

maryh1956, thanks for your help, too. You were right about royalty. I also agree with you about the similarities to Gaudy Welsh. When I started searching, I was coming across these colours and patterns. The question is: How does Gaudy Welsh fit together with a portrait of Napoleon's wife? Maybe maryh1956's comment about being copied by other companies does answer this question.
Many thanks for your comments, jscott0363 :)
IVAN49, Thanks so much for you tip. I will try it!
Many thanks to all of you for loving my little teapot:
