This very large vase stands 15" tall and is about 4.5" in diameter at the widest. The pedestal foot was made separately from the body of the vase and applied later. The rim of the base is ground flat and the trumpet like upper rim is flame polished and turned downward. The shape would fall into either the urn or baluster categories. There is very elaborate rococo style gilding which remains mostly intact, and the glass itself is infused with Uranium giving a bright green glow under UV light. I'm told this is French and dates to the 2nd Empire period, but I'm open to any other theories. Hope you enjoy!
it certainly glows Bob very elegant form too
Thank you Malkey... I wonder what a Geiger counter would say around my display cases ;-P
Thanks fortapache! ;-) Bob
Truly awesome Bill, and that glow!
It is a really neat piece.
Wow -- Yummy !!
Wow, what a beauty! And a big one, too! I am not sure if it is French or Bohemian, but either way it is lovely - the shade of green is so soft and pleasing!
Thanks Karen! - Cheers! - Bob
Gracias fortapache!
Yummy in a radioactive way antiquerose :-) Cheers!
Thanks Michelle, Bohemian would certainly be a possibility. I'm just basing the French attribution on what the shop keeper where I bought it had thought. I've had it many years now, so too late to go back and ask her. I'm more sure about the time period than the country of origin.
