Strange glass head

I have had this piece for a little while. I picked it up at a sale and was told that it was probably from a glass studio up North somewhere. I have not seen another just like this. It is around 10.5 inches tall and is very heavy, even though it is hollow. Does anyone have any info on this-it would be much appreciated. It is a thick glass that is open on top.
