I wonder if this one is a tourist souvenir....maybe bone or even plastic.

I'm sure it's a souvenir pin. It has a sort of plastic look about it. Plastic warms up quickly - bone does not.
Not really possible to give you a whole history about a souvenir stick pin that has no marks on it. :-))))
The pin itself is straight rather than with a spiral design, so the pin is likely to be from the latter part of the 20th Century. It could even have been made this year. We don't know where you got it or how long you've had it.

Good point. I got some bulk lots of mixed jewellery this year from the USA including this pin. But I'm not from that part of the world so was wondering if I could find out any more. I saw there were some similar selling on eBay from the 50's/60's. It definitely could be made this year having said that, I really don't know. Thank for your thoughts Efesgirl

Your pin could be made from "walrus ivory" or perhaps mammoth ivory. It's not one of the cheap mass produced tourist pieces, given that the pin is inserted into a hole carefully drilled into the piece and not just glued to its back. There are many native craftsmen producing this type of scrimshaw on different levels, some are famous, many others are not.
