Who is Bessie? There are no markings on the back and when I look her up I get a lot of plates with children on them. None like this. I could swear I've seen her before, but where??? It reminds me of I love Lucy.

I don't know which category to put her in, I wouldn't consider her china, it's almost like stoneware???

Thank you Racer...it is frilly isn't it? And thanks for the love on the avatar...I love her too. She's hard to spot, unlike good ol Betty Boop! But because I do love her, I'll get used to her!

This might have started life as a blank and been painted by a student or amateur artist. I didn't find a single thing like it.

That's very cool! Worth zooming in to see the details, especially around Bessie's face.

Thanks Bonnie...I didn't find anything either and I know I've seen this before somewhere! haha I probably saw it right where I bought it from but passed on it before!! That's got to be why it looks familiar.

Bonnie, here's a good one to make you laugh for a minute!!! As I was reading your comment, I read it as if you were saying a name of a company..."Blank and Bean" I am on the floor laughing at myself!!! I probably shouldn't tell on myself so much, ya think? OMG somebody's gonna commit me!

Thank you for the sweet comment BV. I just went and grabbed the plate and of course, Bonnie is absolutely correct. It is a plate that has been painted on...and no, not a Blank and Bean. hahaha OMG can't blame egg nog on this one!!!

This may be a longshot, but when I saw this plate it kind of reminded me of a set that my grandmother possibly had when I was younger. It would've been a plate of a woman like this and then a matching plate of a man, maybe Ma and Pa plates. Maybe on this one instead of putting Ma, they put the woman's actual name. Don't know but just a thought.

Thank yo Mrstyndall for the comment and the interesting info...Possible. It somewhat reminds me of a pie plate, a berry pie plate because of the way her dress has that lattice style to it. That's kinda what I see.

Here's a link to a pinterest site with Felt Plates like "Bessie". I remember one of my sisters made a set of these in Girl Scouts, or 4H.

There are others like these, and some painted ones too! :^)

Thank you for the comment maryh, great thought! I think that's a good idea for a restaurant to have exclusive wares!

bill, thank you...nice finding that. When I first started to read it saying it was Victorian and you mentioned your sister, I thought...just how old is he???!!!! haha

Well, it figures I only got the one. It was not expensive and I thought she was kind of cute for someone with a red kitchen.
