Hello everyone.
A very cute little creature that was a "must have" as he goes very well with the silver Westie Dog face brooch (posted on cw 8 months ago ).
It is unmarked sterling silver, repousse punched star pattern 2 part riveted Turtle Brooch with green paste? eyes......or at least that is what I have seen this work described as!!
Measures a tiny 3 1/2cm x 2 cm. The hinge on both seem to be the same....so would be Edwardian period.
At first I thought the marks on the back of the head and legs were going to be at least a maker's mark......but no, they are actually the marks from the rivets which have been put in the front to hold the top and bottom of the brooch together!! As you can see the Westie brooch has a fully enclosed back.
Hope you like this little cutie....I think it is adorable!! Thanks for looking and any comments most welcome, Thanks Judy.
This is the only similar looking one I could find

I love your turtle Judy! He's delightful.
Your pup scores well too but his rabid eyes are a worry for me lol.
Thanks Karen, must admit the turtle is the favourite...he sure is cute!!
Both are very pretty, even doggie with little cruel red eyes ;-))
Charles Horner staybrite jewellery is quite similar, but your pieces are older!
Made for each other, those two cuties :-) Could it be even older than Edwardian? (cf your Etsy link)...

Thank you Kyra....There are some nice pieces there in CH staybrite aren't there and some are similar with the pattern too.
Thanks Bijou,glad you like them!
I am usually hopeless at dating things.....just looking at the hinges makes me say edwardian.....but really, I honestly can't tell the difference between victorian & edwardian no matter how many times I watch the video!!! You know how sometimes you just can't get something straight in your mind......this is one of those times lol! :-)
Oh I totally know what you mean. Same here! :-) Being able to date our findings is great, of course, but I feel that what matters is the value it holds to our eyes. When we can see the beauty of an item for what it is, that's priceless isn't it.
Thanks Bijou.....totally agree!!
Thanks very much Val, glad you like them!!

Thanks Glass, could not pass him up! I always like safety chains on brooches......it makes me think that someone really treasured their brooch and did not want to lose it!! (but that is probably just me being sentimental Lol!!)
