I first spotted these candlesticks in our local Antiques Centre about a month ago, but they had no price and one was damaged so I passed. Next time I went they were still there, so I took them to desk to find out price. The owner was away so I have had to wait a week or two, but I have them now. They are 21 cms tall and are in a pretty clear yellow heavy glass, that rings like crystal, and they glow well under UV light, though my torch is inadequate to light them up properly, as they are fairly large. Does anyone know who made them, as I have not found any like them online. Absolutely delighted with them, despite the damage on one.
Adele,
Damaged or not, they're both incredible looking and I'm really glad you were able to get these.
Thanks for all the love. I have been trying to find out more about them, and wondered if they may be Flint glass. I read a discription of flint canary yellow glass and it mentioned that it rang when tapped, which these do.
Interesting pair. Originally I thought they might be Boston and Sandwich. They could also be New England Glass Co or a British glass competitor of the same time period. I suspect 1850 to 1870s
Thank you for that, Vaseline Alley. They are very different to my other Vaseline glass, in colour and texture. Seeing I am in England, it is more likely that they are British but I have not found anything quite like them yet.
The six-petal socket is very much like Boston and Sandwich Co. Also the ring of six more petals just beneath the socket. I don't see the usual handmade "wafer" often used to join the socket to the base. Maybe that was just an American technique?
I know this group of posts was from many years ago and seemed to end in a mystery. I have these candle sticks and have researched the heck out of them. I arrived at the same conclusions as the people who posted here. I wonder if they are Bohemian. Has anyone been successful with their identification?
We can,t solve this without THE AUSSIES , they are the Einsteins here, actually i
also need the myself for much bigger amounts of value
