This is a postcard of the third of the Arrowhead Springs Hotel. The first two were destroyed by brush fires as was this one. I think it is the most ornate of the four incarnations of this hotel.
This version lasted from 1905-1938. I think this one is from the early end of that time period.
You may note the arrowhead in the foothills above on the right. It is a natural formation gives the names to the springs, Lake Arrowhead, Arrowhead Water and many other local places.
Arrowhead Water comes form the springs here which are a hot spring. Lake Arrowhead is about 4,000 feet above it (and a just a few miles east) and is not related to the springs.
PS free bonus photo of The Narrows which highway 18 above the hotel.
Stupendous view in the last photo!
Great postcard and really great information and write up!
Great postcard and information fortapache, I never knew that about the arrowhead formation, does it still look the same today?
Thank you very much Efesgirl. It is an interesting stretch of road.
