Two months ago, when I shared the pics of the two Italian chairs from "the Other House" (http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/211960-two-italian-chairs-1950s?in=user) i told you I would share some of the lamp appearing on the pics... and here it is!
Carlos always told me it was attributed to Gio Ponti, so I've been doing some research on it since then... My first surprise is that it was not made in the 1950s as I thought, but around 1933 (and yes, once one thinks about it it makes total sense). It was created for Fontana Arte in collaboration with the designer Pietro Chiesa, who was invited by Gio Ponti himself to work as co-artistic director of the company.
This lamp was also made with a metal frame instead of a wooden one, and there is a nice table-lamp version too -see last pic-.
There were other Saturn lamps made at the time. for instance, Edvard Hald made one for Orrefors in the early 30s... and many others were made in the 30s and 40s and even the 60s and 70s.
jealous of its beauty and the owner!!! LOL!!!
FANTASTIC!!!
Thanks Austro :)

Thanks Rose!!!!
By the way... I've just found quite a few "Saturn" lamps here at CW... it looks like it was a very popular subject in the Art Deco days. In any case they're all made of glass, steel, plastic/bakelite... None of them are made in wood. I see the Italian approachment to the subject was a less "streamline" one.
