My wife found this among her belongings. It belonged to her grandfather who came from Esslingen, Germany. It is hinged on the front and back. It has beautifully detailed gold hands. When the back is open, the back of the watch has engraving that says Oscar Hemminger Esslingen. The inside of the case back appears to have silver stamp and the number 1442704.
    The watch is running perfectly.
Does anyone have any background on this watch?

I know that this is an old post, and that there is no movement image shown, but I may have some idea about the watch. I have one that has a similar double sunk dial with Arabic numerals and is marked with a German retailer's name. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a, what is called, System Glashutte movement in there. These were made in Switzerland in the German style of the time. Their quality ran from average to quite good/excellent. It's a little better than a WAG without an image of the movement. Cheers.
