Have always owned a few hat pins - nothing to brag about, but have recently REALLY started collecting them. I am hooked!!!! Love the different styles, the thought that 100 years ago this may have been in a huge victorian hat atop a ladies head. Of course I realize finding a TRUE antique pin is not that easy - but isn't that a fun part of it also?

I think these are beautiful, love the way you have displayed them! I'm into old dishes & antique furniture. Love the desk you have them displayed on. I have quite a collections of Ruby Red glass.

Thanks Peggy! I used to collect dishes and glass (Pink and Green Depression, Carnival, Yelloware and the list went on and on! I've either sold or packed away the majority of it and now seek smaller things that I can display easier like Hat Pins, Salt Cellars and Eye Wash Cups. Not to mention that the price fell out of so many antiques - it is just depressing to see what some of these dishes are bringing compared to just 10 years ago and what I paid for them!
The desk looks old but honestly it is a JC Penny's item that I purchased through a liquidation store in my small town - paid $80 for it.

Amazed what some of these bring, a friend of mine bought a collection like this for $50 and sold it for over $3000.

With the price of antiques continuing to go down - I am shocked that Hat Pins are bringing what they are! If anything it seems the price has went up just in the past year!

I'm a long time collector and the prices of most hatpins have really dropped over the last three years. The exception are the more hard-to-find hatpins as the vanity hatpins, enameled, hookers, and the figurals. Since I see a number of modern-made fakes in the photos, I wish to warn you to be very careful when buying hatpins. I can see from the pins that you have bought a number of them from a specific dealer; this dealer never describes his hatpins as being old or antique...new collectors just assume they are such (for some reason). I think it's very important to learn a bit more about findings and other construction characteristics of authentic antique hatpins. Check out the eBay guides on them and the American Hatpin Society's webpage as well. And if you don't have one of the Lillian Baker books, then I'd recommend one of those too? Her small book entitled "Hatpins and Hatpin Holders" sells for under $10.00 on eBay. Good luck to you!

Just an example of how prices have gone down, a hatpin with large colored stones accented with clear or colored rhinestones would have sold for $275. to $375. a few years ago and now can be easily had today for under $200. Plain clear rhinestone hatpins used to run $75.00 and now are valued at $35. The Delemoth rose hatpins used to be $75 to $150 and now go for $35 to $50. So big changes. You've dropped into collecting at a great time.

I also see some fake hatpins in the collection. The white frosted glass hatpin, the large metal setting with six petals with the art glass stone and the daisy with the pink stone are all "Billy-Bob" hatpins. They are all modern-made and the seller has been offering these same hatpins on eBay for over a decade. They are nicely made but they are not authentic antiques.
