The Shakyamuni Buddha - better known as Siddhartha Gautama - is often depicted holding a pagoda though sometimes seen holding a candle or a bowl.
I purchased this stone carving (and several others that I no longer have) from a store in Singapore in 1968. I assume it was brand new then. It is a bit over 3" tall.
The type of stone can go by many names but is generally lumped together under the name "soapstone". It has been used for carving for millennia and modern pieces (those of the last century and a half or so) are often difficult to date accurately.
beautifully carved!
