Hello. This is a Roman Catholic item, possibly from a shrine or confessional. On the front are the letters IHS. To quote Wikipedia:"IHS" is sometimes interpreted as meaning Iesus Hominum Salvator ("Jesus, Savior of men" in Latin) or connected with In Hoc Signo.
The metal work looks like it from the 1930s to 1950s.
      Peace.

Thank you Tom! Wow! That kinda makes you all worm inside. But I still don't know what kind of safe door it was. P.S. I was told that the wood box that came withit rotted away years ago. Peace!

I believe that this is a lock from a sacrisity. Which held the bread and wine in a protective area until needed.

This would have been the door to the ' Reserve Scarement' and not for regular service. The Priest would have had the key for the safe.

Speaking of Freudian slips, I prefer "Scarement". It makes me all "worm" inside.
