This may look a generic spatter glass rose bowl, but not to me. This purple and gold décor is shown in a 1928 Welz factory document, which was included in an article written by Craig Orkney and published in the magazine of the West Virginia Museum of American Glass.

Image four shows it with one of my very early purchases of Welz glass in the same shape. I hadn't realised that I already had this shape when I bought it!

I don't know about that, Craig, the cost might eat into the glass budget! :)
    4. sklo42 sklo42, 8 years ago
Perhaps, scott. if we are aware of this ailment it won't be too bad!

Acknowledging that you have a problem is the first step to recovery!!!

Never mind the first step, it seems I need the twelve steps :)

      Thank you Karen :)
The purple was very difficult to capture and the closest I got is in image one.

The glass is beautiful of course, but I'm curious about the cap? Is it medal? Is this considered a flower frog? I'm very green behind the ears on this glass stuff, but I sure love it! And want to learn more. Thank you!

Hello Karenoke The top is indeed metal and called a flower frog/arranger. It's usually a base metal which has been brass plated. The brass plating has often worn away due to age, but even so should not be discarded. If, that is, you find one that still has its frog! This is the most basic model of frog, but they can be more ornate.

Finally, everyone who posts items here, in whatever category, started out just like you and most are happy to answer questions. :)
