I am looking for any information that someone could tell me about this trunk. I have acquired quite a few, but none like this one. Most of the trunks i have seen have a main lock on the front with two latches, this has two locks on the front. also most that i have seen have leather straps, this has metal. what i know is that a 75 year old woman owned it and it was her grandmothers. I am also informed that it is thought she is romanian. It is a slight bow top. I will be tlcing very soon and bringing back it's glory. just not sure exactly how i want to do it, i have totally restored some and also just cleaned up some so the truck will speak to me as to what i want to do. any info would be greatly appreciated!
Some thoughts Although there is no label to say the exact maker ,we can compare it to other items. We can tell that this is a european/(think brussels) or french trunk based on the latch hardware, and interior lid stays used. Another tell tale sign, the hinges for the lid are covered in canvas. The side lifting handles are seen on french trunks from the 1880s and earlier.A different sign is high placement of the slat on the back of the trunk and the brass rivets on the valance and other slats. The link below show a french campaign trunk with similar latch hardware. http://www.brownrigg-interiors.co.uk/productimages/late-19th-century-french-campaign-trunk-59-2.jpeg
this link shows the interior lid stay/guide.
