I found this in an old trunch in a barn outside of LaGrange Tx. I don't think is Native American but I've been wrong before. The blanket is two peices that have been hand stitched together and all the embroidery is also hand done. I fell in love with all the embroidery of people, birds, dogs and horses I just couldn't let keep deteriorating in the barn and had to bring it home. Please if you have any idea of age or anything about it I would love to know.
Wow! Nice blanket Madison! The design sure looks late 1800s to me, but I don't know much about material. Very good find though, and a nice save too! :^)
Looks Pennsylvania Dutch to me (somewhat) and I think it's a tablecloth and made of linen not wool.
Google image search Pennsylvania Dutch cross stitch or Pennsylvania Dutch embroidery. You will see MANY elements that are in your piece. They seem to have added western elements as well.
Hi. Your blanket is Mexican. If you are still active on this account, reply and I can tell you more. Thank you.
PCMadison - Your blanket was made by the Otomi Indians in the Toluca valley near Mexico City. It probably dates to the 1950s-60s. The designs and general layout are very traditional. I have 2 others that are very similar that are embroidered in red and black. If you contact me I will post some pictures.
PCMadison - I posted images of 4 blankets like yours. Check them out and contact me when you get a chance.
PCMadison - I solved your mystery. Your blanket is way cool. Please respond.
