I found this large glass duck bowl / dish today. It has controlled bubbles and is 11" long and nearly 6" across. I have been looking online and can't find one like it. Can anyone help? Where was it made and when? There are quite a lot of scratches on the base, so there is some age to it. It's much larger than my other Swan / bird bowls.

      Perhaps Murano?
    2. AdeleC AdeleC, 8 years ago
I thought Murano was the obvious one, but can't find one to compare it to. I will keep looking. Thanks Beyemvey.

I draw a blank at the moment as I know I have seen a murano glass duck bowl with a Jordan Import Label on it ...... but I can not find it. Chalet / Lorraine glass also did some Ducks so the jury is still out on this for me

When in doubt, give Anita a holler...LOL

Looks like Murano Sommerso ducks. Every glass piece is unique, but here's one in the same general manner.

Thank you all for your comments. The Murano zoo website is amazing. I think most Murano bird bowls tend to be more delicate and frilly than mine, which is quite a large chunk of glass!

That is why in [Post 3] of me to you that I was mentioning Murano and the Jordan Import company ( J. I. Co ) -- as I figure mine is Murano too

Actually they are only controlled bubbles when (all) the bubbles go in lines. I see too many uncontrolled bubbles in this duck. But don't get me wrong, I love this and am envious on the duck for sure. I agree with antiquerose on murano and also love the glass colours !

On second look it DOES more look like controlled bubbles, have seen one or two of the other links where the bubbles look scattered. Sorry for confusion.

Thanks Phil, I do think the bubbles are controlled on this one. I really must look up how they do it, it must be a pretty tricky process. Maybe something on u tube will show me. Antiquerose, thanks for finding the other chunky duck. It is a lot smaller than mine and it does have the spikey bits on it that most Murano bird dishes seem to have.

Pairpoint made a lot of controlled bubble glass, esp back in the 40's to 60's.
