I've inherited the drill bits in the photos from my Dad. I'm wondering what type of drill these would have been used with. There are several different manufacturers - Morse Twist Drill and Mch Co., NTPD, Union. I can't make the full name out on the following - Keye, Hercu PA, Ampco and Russell..t..gs. Does anyone know what company the maker's mark on the photo belongs to? it looks like maybe Stanley?
I also have one old bit that is still encased in the protective covering. I assume that the little bit of string on the end meant to be pulled to remove the coating.
Is there anything of note here?
It looks like in the shield STANDARD over TOOL over CO. all over U.S.A. :^)

The bits with the tapered shank and the flat on the end of the shank are called Morse taper bits. I had a post drill many years ago that took those bits. The bits with the square shank are for a brace. https://www.morsecuttingtools.com/Catalog_pdf/MORSE/MOR2011CATALOG/J0296.pdf
Thanks, guess that solves it. I found another bit like the photo of the bit with the protective coating. I took the coating off of the shank to see what it was. It is a National 15/16" HSS bit. The other one looks to be the same size but still has the coating intact. These bits are old, maybe from the 40's. did they use cosmoline back then?
