I found this little outer-rib trunk at a flea market recently and always have been intrigued by the genius of their design, in general. The body is typically fiber or very thin planed wood which you think would be crazy for a trunk but the strength provided by the 'outer ribs' makes them work. With this one, rather than recovering it with new canvas, cleaned it, primed it and then painted it. I did remove all of the hardware and am always pleasantly surprised to see that under the green hue, there is shining brass. The interior had some peeling old paper so I stripped that and relined it with some 100% cotton denim, along with the tray bottom as well. Attach legs, make sure it is nice and level and voila! A cute coffee table (or end table, I guess) is born.
What a neat idea!!
