I'm with the Rural Heritage Museum, Boonsbro, MD in central Maryland, USA. We just obtained a very old sewing machine. So much fabric has going through this machine that we can't read the name on the circular platform.. I have posted photos on Flickr under the name Doug Valentine RHM - Sewing Machine (hope you can open them). We want to establish the manufacturer and when it may have be produced. About the only thing I can read on the plate is that the name starts with F I and ends in a E. Not sure if it is one or two worded name. Patented dates: 9/10/1846; 11/12/50; 8/12/51; 5/30/52; 10/19/54; 11/4/56 with additional dates of: 1/22/1861 & 7/18/1863. There is a number "19952" and a "K" at the bottom of the circle. Can anyone help us identify the manufacturer and the date of production? Would appreciate any and all assistance. Doug Valentine
Trying to establish the manufacturer names and date of production.
After posting this I continued to researching the web. This machine was manufactured by Florence from about 1860 to early 1870's. My model was manufactured about 1865. Would like to have conformation. Thanks folk..
Beautiful Florence fancy legs :) my reference for 19952, is 1863. The source is Grace Rogers Cooper 1985.
WOW that's beautiful!
I brought four Cast iron legs years ago at a yard sale. Never new what they were used for? Now I know!!! Great machine!!!!!
