This impressive vase arrived from Japan without any identifiers like sticker or box, but I am almost sure it is by FTG, or Fukuoka Glass.
You may recall my bird sculpture from Multi Glass and the latticino in the birds' bodies. (Multi Glass is a later name for FTG) This vase has almost identical latticino in it, and the shape of the vase itself is similar to a known FTG shape.
The ribbed handles are like some I have seen from FTG, but then Kamei also had similar handles at times.
All in all I am happy to attribute this as a probable product of Fukuoka Glass, although I can't yet definitely do so.
I would date this around 1960s, based on shape and overall design.
Height: 30cm
So many interesting & unusual details in this vase - the coloured latticino, silver flakes, melon ribbed shape, & shell ribbed handles - fascinating!
Gorgeous find !
Another beauty!
Many different factors make this vase just wonderful, thanks sharing Karen !!!!!!!!
Thanks IronLace. It is a busy decor but the Japanese glass of this period often is.
I appreciate your input and love.
Many thanks Ivonne and Phil for your comments!
Malkey I'm always happy to show little known Japanese glass.
Thanks for the response!
So much to enjoy in one stately vase......and I do love celery handles!
Karen,
That is a very impressive piece for sure! I love it!
Beautiful vase Phoebe ... oops ... Karen (LOL) Bob
Your Japanese glass is always so beautiful Karen, and this one is no exception! I just love how the colorful latticino seems to float against the dark backdrop, and, like your birds, the workmanship is outstanding... I love this!
I never knew they were called that Peggy! New term to know so I sound more smart and stuff.
Thanks for the love and comment.
Bob and Scott - two true gentlemen and I am always happy to hear from you. Many thanks.
Phoebe says thanks too Bob - and she is glad you didn't spell it Feebie.
Thanks for the appreciation Rick. Many art glass collectors of your calibre don't seem to see the work and beauty of Japanese glass. That's OK (it is a different style for sure) but I am impressed and happy that you do. Again, thanks!
ya what Rick said ...smiling
Karen, there so much going on with this piece of glass, i don't know where to start.
Just gone say, i am speechless.
Regards
Alan
